Renaissance, Laureate, & Scholar Artist

All requirements are at Instructor discretion

This form must be complete to be considered for an award

Renaissance Artist

Must complete 3 years within the VAPA program with at least a 3.0 in those classes. There is also a portfolio/performance requirement, a participation requirement, and an arts exploration requirement.

Award: VAPA Medal

Laureate

Must complete at least 4 courses (or 3 for Theater/Dance) from the same VAPA pathway and have at least a 3.0 GPA in VAPA courses, with a Capstone course where applicable. There is also a portfolio/performance requirement, a participation requirement, and an arts exploration requirement.

Award: VAPA Cord (pink)

Scholar Artist

Must complete at least 4 courses (or 3 for Theater/Dance) from the same VAPA pathway and have at least a 3.5 overall GPA, with a Capstone course where applicable. There is also a portfolio/performance requirement, a participation requirement, and an arts exploration requirement.

Award: VAPA Cord (pink and navy)

Portfolio Requirement

As a member of the Conservatory of the Arts at Sonora High School, students must participate in performances or a portfolio depending on their chosen pathway:

Visual Arts: Submit a portfolio of 10 best completed works.
Theatre: Perform and/or volunteer (as stage manager, house manager, scenic designer, technician, makeup artist, etc.) in Sonora productions. Sonora theater productions are defined as fall, spring, or summer productions as well as Intermediate/Advanced Theater class showcases. Theater competitions (such as the Fullerton College Theater Festival or the FJUHSD Theater Festival) are also eligible.
Instrumental Music: Participate in the required number of Sonora Marching Competitions (Fall competitions, Winterguard, Winter Percussion), Concert Performances (on campus, Festivals), Recital opportunities (Guitar and Piano), or District Showcases.
Choral Music: Participate in the required number of Sonora Concert Performances, Festivals or District Showcases.
Dance: Participate in the required number of Sonora Dance Showcases (Dance Production, Drill, District Dance Show, and Competitions).

Sonora Conservatory Participation

All Conservatory Members must participate in a minimum of 3 events (Laureate/Renaissance) or 6 events (Scholar Artist) by the end of their Senior Year to earn the Scholar Artist Award in their chosen discipline. In addition,

Arts Exploration

Conservatory members must attend Sonora events, outside events, and/or museum visits to broaden and deepen their understanding, appreciation, and support of the arts.

Laureate/Renaissance: 4 events total

Scholar Artist: 8 events total
